It’s that magical time of the year again! I’m thrilled to share my heartwarming experience to spread awareness and cheer. I was lucky enough to spend another session as a volunteer photographer. I captured the pure joy of NICU babies with Santa and Mrs. Claus at Advent Health.
Being part of this incredible project since 2018 has been nothing short of a whirlwind of emotions. I use the skills I have as a photographer to bring smiles, and witness miracles. When first approached with this idea, I couldn’t resist the opportunity to spread some holiday cheer to families. I can’t imagine spending my first festive season in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).
This year was particularly special. News crews joined us at Advent Health to capture the magical North Pole moments in the NICU.
The hospital itself was filming a promotional video, highlighting the compassionate care provided to these tiny fighters. The excitement was everywhere, and so was the sense of Christmas spirit.
As a volunteer trio – Santa, Mrs. Claus, and myself – we navigate the NICU spreading holiday cheer. The soft jingles of jingle bells create an atmosphere of hope and joy amid the beeping monitors and hushed conversations.
The NICU is a place filled with resilience and strength, and I am grateful to be a part of these families’ lives. The tiniest of patients, adorned in festive onesies and Santa hats, light up like little stars as they meet Santa for the first time. The parents’ faces wear a mix of exhaustion and gratitude
Some don’t know, I offer complimentary photo sessions to parents and families facing extended stays in the NICU. I do this year-round. The images captured serve as a reminder of their strength and the love that surrounds these families. It provides a glimmer of joy during a challenging time. These sessions are a small way for me to give back, and I am so lucky to be a part of their journey.
As we wrap up another year of spreading joy in the NICU, I find myself reflecting. Countless smiles, tears of gratitude, and a huge sense of community define this project. I would jump at the chance to take on more work, in any capacity, within the NICU. The bonds formed, the stories shared, and the lessons learned from these tiny warriors have forever changed me.
In the spirit of the season, let’s continue to spread love, joy, and hope. Not just during the holidays but throughout the year. Happy holidays, everyone! ????✨
